Prevent Drunk Driving on the Road
DUI education refers to the various kinds of trainings especially designed to prevent drunk driving on the road. This is most applicable for drivers who have been convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and driving while intoxicated (DWI). There are two categories presented for DUI education; remedial and preventive. The training can be done in a driving school that offers a classroom or online education, through multimedia effort and in mandatory settings in jail offered for repeat offenders.
There are prevention programs that involve instructions and multimedia communication campaigns that aimed for larger number of audiences. These programs begin with the participation of teenagers taught by volunteers who are provided with teaching curriculum which are mostly designed by activist organizations like the Mothers against Drunk Driving. These organizations are giving funds to a wide variety of educational materials such as print, billboard and multimedia advertising. Some of the local and regional agencies are doing this activity as well.
The remedial DUI education is a typical training course requirement in every state which is mandated for those who are convicted with drunk driving violations. The requirements for each driver may vary according to the federal state entity. Each remedial class is provided with a prescribed number of hours in class instruction taught by a professional instructor from a driving school. The curriculum of these classes may include the dangers of drunk driving, legal penalties for violators, methods to avoid drunk driving and statistics of victims form road accidents caused by drunk drivers. Other jurisdiction is requiring drivers to attend DUI education which can either be done online in addition to or instead of classroom education. This is an option provided by driving schools given to drivers who are more convenient of staying home for the training than going out and travel to attend classroom trainings.
The DUI education required for an individual will depend on the number of offenses and the severity of intoxication of the driver. Just like for example in California, violators who are found to have a minimal level of alcohol in the system will be facing a 12 hour DUI education which is divided in between mentoring and classroom training. For fist time violators, with a blood alcohol level above the minimum but less than 0.20 percent, the required hours would be 36 and those who have higher blood alcohol level must undergo a 36 hour course requirement. There are cases when repeated offenses will not require a jail sentence. In this situation, offenders will be placed in programs which will last for about 18 to 30 months including classroom education, personal therapy and group interactions.
First time offenders are usually required to participate in a classroom-based DUI education. In some cases, second time offenders are often convicted for jail sentence and will be provided with mandatory DUI education in prison as part of their conviction. This kind of training is usually offered so that violators will be aware of the consequences of their actions and will teach them the ways of avoiding future occurrences of the same offense.
