Understanding a Graduated Driver’s License

Going to a driving school is not a guarantee of not facing accidents. In fact, in most cases, those who encountered crashes in the roads took up a driving education program from a driving school, but not a supervised driving is given. Graduated driver’s license  or GDL is targeted to reduce the risk of accidents in the road with a supervised and multi-faceted driving education through skills and experience.

GDL requirements and merits may differ with one state to another – the process of getting the GDL may require a permit first, whichever is required by the state. With such respect, GDL, in almost every state, follows three stages in getting the license. Intensive training in a driving school is aim to intensify the capabilities of the person to reduce and avoid risk in the road.

To note, the process of getting the GDL starts at teen years. Learning Stage

GDL opens with the learning stage that covers 30 intensive training with considerable supervised training under the care of a professional driving education instructor. The student must express full knowledge of the rules and regulations before the student-driver will be given a learner’s permit. Enrolling in a driving school can help the teen to pass the tests that will be given by the license department.

After obtaining the permit, the teen can only drive with a licensed adult driver in the car. That is, provisional requirements must be met. These requirements include crash free or accident-free for the next semester of the teen’s driving experience, and maintaining a zero record for DUI.

 

Intermediate or the Provisional Stage

After meeting all requisites of the learner’s stage, the drive may proceed to get the intermediate or provisional license. During the driving education period, a thorough driving school training must be properly pursued. It is necessary to improve to the level of ability in driving without crashes and bumping to any property or injuring any person.

The provisional license will cover up to 18 years of age, wherein the teen driver can only take on passenger – and any additional passenger requires the supervision of any adult licensed driver.  The strict compliance of the no DUI record, accident free for the next one year, and night driving restrictions is highly necessary.

 

Full Licensure

After a complete driving education class under the driving school, which will reinforce the driving capabilities of the student throughout the 2-year period before getting the GDL. The minimum age requirement before one can get a GDL is 18 years old. In the same manner, the student driver must possess the knowledge of all the road signs, traffic rules and regulations, and vehicular signals.

With the thorough driving education, the student driver must understand that the driving is not a right, but a privilege granted by the state to individuals who possess the skills and the ability to drive safely in the streets and highways of the United States. With the GDL training under the driving school, the student driver must be able to safeguard both his own life and lives of the other citizens, with a direct connection with all the property of the public.
