Learn The History of Driving

The exact period of the commencement of driving ingenuity is still refuted and in the air of debates among scholars. The only definite matter is that driving made the transportation system of the ancient times, until this very day, easier, faster, and comfortable. Back in the olden times, one traveled the long distances of desserts, simply by walking, which may take days or months. With driving, one can shorten the number of days that one can travel distances; it is a great idea that produces better results in the transportation system.

Automobile invention cannot be separated from the history of driving. Automobile is coined from the Greek words: auto, which means self, and mobilis, which means moving. The term automobile was coined way back 14th century when the Italian inventor and engineer drafted or imagined the first automobile in the known history. However, the idea was not made into a reality.

To retrace history, driving history can be fully comprehended if the history of horses, elephants, and other animals that are used in transportation can be traced. As time flew, there was a need for a wagon or chariots drawn by horses and other animals. However, the driving system is still cumbersome and way hard because animals have the minds of their own.

To facilitate the transportation process easier and better, Italian inventors were interested in creating an automobile that can run on its own without being drawn by people or animals. The idea of using wind mill at the back of the wagon came into being, as an answer to the need of a faster machine that would better the crusaders of the period. In the same period, Leonardo da Vinci, the famous inventor and genius, created the first tricycle that can change gears to better the driving of the person.

In the turn of the 17th century, in the hope of bettering the driving system, Nicolas Cugnot, a French inventor, designed the first steam-engine automobile. The first steam-powered automobiles could only stand for a quarter of an hour. But the ingenuity of the steam-engine came into being to impact the stagecoaches, railroads, and carriages. The idea became the driving force for the other inventions and innovations of automobile to take place.

Came the 18th century, the people saw the first electric boats. Specifically, these boats make use of electric batteries to extend the driving process. The prototypes of the automobile using electricity became the shaper of the new automobiles that are now into being. At the start, many Americans were hesitant about accepting electric automobiles into their streets, but everything went well – and electric cars were introduced into the American culture.

Needs in driving change as people need an automobile that can stand longer travels without necessitating you to change batteries or charge it. To answer the need, German inventors tried the internal combustion engines that used gunpowder to draw power for the automobile. As these inventions were messy, using of oil or gasoline came into existence.

In the turn of the century, Karl Benz introduced the automobile that used an internal combustion engine with the capability to change gears. This was the start of the revolution for the automobile – and this was the start of the new sense in driving.
